Of Roads & Toads

Driving can be a great pleasure or a terrible pain! It used to be the former but nowadays it has become the latter.

Like it or not, driving has now been blamed for a number of illnesses and is one of the leading causes of deaths in the world today.

Governments have tried to make driving safer by introducing laws after laws with stiffer punishments but road accidents have increased and claimed more victims.

How can we make driving more pleasant and safer today? There are many factors, one of which is the one behind the steering-wheel..............you & I.

We can, by the way we drive, contribute much to safety on the roads as well as the well being of our souls.

The first thing to tackle is our attitude. Driving as someone pointed out, tends to transform meek beings into monsters on the road. Our temper rises quickly & often expresses itself into strong words and threatening hand movements. We have become a "Toad". All because another driver cuts into our lane or perhaps the front vehicle is moving at a slow pace. However, if the driver turns around and we recognize the face of a friend or relative, we change immediately and respond with a quick smile and a friendly wave of the hand. The "Toad" has transform into a "lamb". Why the change? The action committed by the other driver has not changed but .....the perception of the driver has changed...from that of a stranger to that of a friend or relative.

My proposition is this....can we treat all drivers on the road as our friends or relatives? Anyway, we are fellow citizens of this country and fellow earthlings on this planet.

Try it and you'll soon find driving a little more pleasant and our blood pressure not rudely raised and our general health and posture in good condition.
